Founded in 1822, the Museo Nacional de Antropología, Arqueología e Historia del Perú (mnaahp.cultura.pe) offers an expansive look at the nation’s past, housing over 300,000 pieces that span from the pre-ceramic period through the early republic.
While the main building – home to iconic treasures like the 2.1m Chavín Raimondi Stela and a unique 18th-century Last Supper depicting Christ feasting on cuy – frequently undergoes renovations, visitors can always explore the adjacent Casa Quinta de los Libertadores. This storied colonial residence, which once served as the home of revolutionary heroes José de San Martín and Simón Bolívar, now hosts a bilingual exhibition chronicling Peru’s path to independence, including the display of the country’s first silk flag.
