Monumental Callao has grown from a local urban art scene into a hub for international design and gastronomy. The socio-cultural endeavor has undeniably enhanced a formerly rough area, establishing a secure and welcoming entry point for visitors to discover more of Callao.
Casa Ronald
The five-story neoclassical building is named after its original owner Guillermo Ronald. After a 28-year construction period it was inaugurated as a commercial and residential space. A central passageway lined with marble busts gave it the look of a European shopping gallery, and its rooftop with an ocean view was accessed by Callao’s first elevator.
Considered a Historical Monument, Casa Ronald is the Peru headquarters for CasaCor, Latin America’s largest architecture and design event.
Guided Walk-Throughs
New murals are no longer permitted in the barrio, which was a big draw for visitors in the project’s initial stages. Now tours focus on shops and showrooms inside Casa Ronald as well as the rooftop, followed by a brief outing to the surrounding historic area including Plaza Matriz.

Gastronomy
Family-owned restaurants have sharpened up their look since tourism began to trickle into the area. Beneath the dangling garlands on Pasaje Galvez, dig into classic Peruvian comfort food at El Comedor followed by a pastry from nearby Italo.
