Musée du Compagnonnage

Tours' unique Musée du Compagnonnage (museecompagnonnage.fr; adult/child €6.60/3.30) spotlights France’s renowned com­pagnonnages, guilds of skilled craftspeople who, over the centuries, have created everything from medieval cathedrals to the Statue of Liberty. Dozens of professions – ranging from carpentry to saddle-making to locksmith­ing – are celebrated here with masterpiec­es handmade from wood, wrought iron, bronze, stone, brick, clay, leather and even sugar. Standouts include exquisite wooden archi­tectural models of elaborate towers and a miniature wrought-iron gate that took 14 years to make. Made fully wheelchair accessible in 2025. Closed Tuesday.
