From the outside, Cathédrale St-Gatien (visite-cathedrale-tours.fr) wows passersbywith flying buttresses, gargoyles and twin Renaissance-style towers (69m). Inside, the 100m-long church dazzles with 29m-high Gothic vaulting in the nave, luminous stained glass and a towering baroque organ (in the south transept arm). English signs in the choir explicate the stained glass panels, some from the 13th century, others from the 21st (eg in the north transept arm). Near the entrance, a rack has brochures on the structure's history.
From the north wall of the nave, you can access Cloître de la Psalette (cloitre-de-la-psalette.fr; €5), an early Renaissance cloister, renovated in 2025, that features a spiral staircase and a scriptorium. Closed on Sunday morning and, from October to March, on Monday and Tuesday.
