Tours' superb fine-arts museum, in an 18th-century archbishop’s palace (mba.tours.fr; adult/child €8.40/4.20), features paintings, sculpture, furniture and objets d’art from the 14th to 20th centuries. Highlights include canvases by Delacroix and Monet, a rare Rembrandt miniature and a Rubens Madonna and Child. Tickets are valid all day.
Outside in the courtyard, you can see a magnificent cedar of Lebanon planted in 1804 and, behind it, a flowery garden. To the right as you enter the compound, check out the taxidermied remains of Fritz, an Asian elephant who, during a 1902 visit to Tours by the Barnum & Bailey circus, escaped and, to the regret of many, was put down.
