The 27-hectare Burleigh Head National Park is known to the local Kombumerri clan of the Yugambeh people as Jellurgal; they trace its formation to a creation spirit called Jabreen. As you walk the 1.2km (one-way) Oceanview Track that edges the reserve, look out for the six-sided basalt columns Jabreen is said to have left in his wake. Sidetracks lead to lookouts.
At the headland's base, Jellurgal Aboriginal Cultural Centre (jellurgal.com.au) is the Goldie's only Aboriginal cultural center. Their Jellurgal Walkabout Tour takes guests on a fascinating walk around the "Dreaming Mountain." It's a gentle two-hour stroll (adult/child $59/29) imbued with Indigenous culture, history and storytelling. Look forward to brilliant views across Tallebudgera Creek and north to Surfers Paradise.
Also available are Jellurgal Journey Tours (adult/child $149/139), run on Wednesdays and including boomerang making and an interactive art class.
