Most of Vyšehrad’s surviving buildings, including the former Baroque Fortress (praha-vysehrad.cz) – known on maps as the "Brick Gate and Casements" – date from later centuries, when the ruling Habsburg dynasty used the fortress to protect Prague against Prussian and French encroachment.
A guided 30-minute tour takes visitors through an elaborate system of vaulted brick tunnels within the ramparts. The highlight is the large, barrel-vaulted Gorlice Hall, where troops would muster without being seen by the enemy. Now, the space is home to several original baroque statues from Charles Bridge.
