Don't be surprised to see history walking past you in the form of costumed staff at this history/folk museum at the edge of Reykjavík. Árbær Open Air Museum (borgarsogusafn.is; adult/child 2450kr/free) is built on former farmland and is made up of historic buildings transported here from other parts of Iceland. They are arranged to form an old town square, a village and a farm. During summer, staff demonstrate spinning wool, milking cows and smoking meat. Year-round tours in English lasting about an hour run at 1pm with no extra charge. The museum is 4km southeast of the city center.
