Old Harbour

Reykjavík's natural harbor was a key force in helping transform the area from remote farmland into a national capital and fishing powerhouse. Largely service harbors until recently, the Old Harbour and, on its western edge, the Grandi (Örfirisey) area, have blossomed into tourist hot spots, with key art galleries, museums, restaurants and shops. Whale- and puffin-viewing trips depart from the Old Harbour, and as boat bells ding, photo ops abound with views of snowcapped Mt Esja and Harpa concert hall.
