The natural springs here are home to wild trout and eels, which you can peer at through an underwater viewer. There are interpretive walkways, a 'Big Splash' water ride and plenty of animals, including tuatara (a native reptile) and native birds. The Kiwi Encounter offers a rare peek into the lives of these endangered birds: excellent 30-minute tours (an extra $10 per person) have you tiptoeing through incubator and hatchery areas. There's also a free-flight exotic bird show at 11.30am.
Rainbow Springs is around 3km north of central Rotorua.
