Ripiro Beach

Bay of Islands & Northland

The beach is a gazetted highway: you can drive along the sand at low tide, although it is primarily for 4WDs. Despite being NZ’s longest driveable beach, it’s less well known and hence less travelled than Ninety Mile Beach (but no, your car-rental insurance won't cover you if you get stuck). Mobile phone coverage is patchy too.
