Half Day Small-Group Tauranga Scenic Tour from Port

After meeting your guide just outside the port gate at 10am, you will depart along Pilot Bay where you can see the great views across Tauranga Harbor to the city, and inner reaches of the harbor and Matakana Island. Pass Mauao, the iconic landmark of this area where you can see evidence of the early Maori settlements around the base of the mountain, and hear the Maori legend of how Mauao got his name. As you pass by Mauao, you will arrive at one of New Zealands most popular beaches, "The Mount Main Beach," home of many major surfing competitions, beach volleyball  and a popular spot for locals and visitors to enjoy the beach front cafes and restaurants. Continue along the very affluent Marine Parade where some of New Zealand's most expensive homes are located, along with some stunning examples of the native Pohutukawa tree.  When you see the view out across the Pacific Ocean, you will realize why this is such a popular summer holiday destination.  Leaving Tauranga, you will head east towards Comvita the home of the honey bee and world famous Manuka honey. Hear the story behind one man's passion to blend nature, health and wellness together. There's time to purchase a delicious Manuka Honey ice cream before you head to our next destination. A short drive will take you to Kiwifruit Country where you can walk right under the Kiwifruit vines.  You will hear about the industry sample kiwifruit, juices, jams, chutneys and ice cream, or pick up a memento of your visit to the orchard. Finally, it’s a brief stop at an Avocado orchard before we head back to your ship via Tauranga city for a great photo opportunity of your ship and Mount Maunganui before you head back over the harbor bridge.

1-Hour Tauranga Harbour Scenic Cruise from Mount Maunganui

Your 1-hour scenic cruise will depart from the Pilot Wharf at the base of Mount Maunganui (Mauao). You just need to walk 100 meters along the base track to get to the cruise departure point.    Scenic features include the Statue of Tangaroa, a diversity of landscapes from untouched white sandy beaches, lush green forests, islands and small village settlements, contrasted by the massive highly developed port infrastructure. Occasionally you may see some seasonal wildlife on your cruise like blue penguins, sea birds or NZ fur seals.Check out the cargo and container ships or visiting cruise ships as we cruise around New Zealand's largest port.Matakana Island Hop on / Hop off 
Passengers can get off at Matakana Island beach anytime and be picked up anytime on the same day at no extra cost. Spend an hour or a day on the sandy beach with a swim and picnic or fishing.We recommend if you want an island stop off to take one of the first two sailings of the day (11am and 12pm). It’s the skippers call on access to the island dependant on current weather conditions and predicted afternoon forecasts. The skipper will advise you of the last pick up of the day.Part of our service is the opportunity to visit Matakana island but any obligation on part of Kewpie Cruises to provide this part of the service in no way changes the value of the ticket.Guidelines for visiting Matakana Island:- This is strictly a beach visit only, no entering the forest under any circumstances (this is private forestry). - No fires are to be lit on the island- Toilets available onboard the vessel, or at the end of the wharf- Collect any rubbish you see, and bring all your rubbish back with you (keep our beaches clean!)

Fly past the iconic Mount Maunganui as we head along the coast to the isolated Coromandel town of Whangamata. You will see the wind swept beach of Matakana Island along with the vast inner Tauranga harbour. Once we arrive at the Coromandel Coast the beaches are replaced by towering cliffs and secluded bays. From Whangamata we head inland over bush and farm land to the Waihi Gold mine, at 260m deep and nearly 1km wide it is hard to miss. Our flight returns via the Tauranga harbour and Matakana farmlands.
