After meeting your guide just outside the port gate at 10am, you will depart along Pilot Bay where you can see the great views across Tauranga Harbor to the city, and inner reaches of the harbor and Matakana Island. Pass Mauao, the iconic landmark of this area where you can see evidence of the early Maori settlements around the base of the mountain, and hear the Maori legend of how Mauao got his name. 1-Hour Tauranga Harbour Scenic Cruise from Mount Maunganui

Your 1-hour scenic cruise will depart from the Pilot Wharf at the base of Mount Maunganui (Mauao). You just need to walk 50 meters along the base track to get to the cruise departure point.    The scenic cruise features include the Statue of Tangaroa, a diversity of landscapes including untouched white sandy beaches, lush green forests, islands and small village settlements contrasted by the massive highly developed port infrastructure. Get close-up with cargo and container ships or visiting cruise ships as you travel through Stella Passage and New Zealand's largest port. There is a licensed bar and coffee onboard. With the Matakana Island hop-on / hop-off option you are able to get off at Matakana Island beach anytime and be picked up anytime on the same day at no extra cost. Spend an hour or a day on the sandy beach with a swim, picnic or a spot of fishing. This is strictly a beach visit as the private forest can’t be entered due to the risk of fire. Keep New Zealand’s beaches clean and bring all rubbish back to the boat. Wildlife you may see includes blue penguins and sea birds. Marine mammals can be seen occasionally in season, including New Zealand fur seals, orca and dolphins.

Fly past the iconic Mount Maunganui as we head along the coast to the isolated Coromandel town of Whangamata. You will see the wind swept beach of Matakana Island along with the vast inner Tauranga harbour. Once we arrive at the Coromandel Coast the beaches are replaced by towering cliffs and secluded bays. From Whangamata we head inland over bush and farm land to the Waihi Gold mine, at 260m deep and nearly 1km wide it is hard to miss. Our flight returns via the Tauranga harbour and Matakana farmlands.
