England’s oldest working gin distillery has been producing the spirit since 1793. For nearly 200 years, its naval-strength gin was supplied to the Royal Navy, whose officers are credited with inventing the gimlet cocktail to prevent scurvy. The building itself, a former monastery, dates from the early 1400s. It's worth a visit for the Refectory Bar’s stunning beamed ceiling alone.
