Omeo Historical Park & Museum

Victorian High Country

Back in the day, Omeo was one of Victoria's most lawless goldfield towns, and here you can visit the site where troublemakers were dealt with. Guided tours take you through the original 1861 courthouse and the 'new' courthouse built in 1893, both of which have historical displays and photographs. Also here is the original log jail, a rather grim wooden cell dating from 1858, and remarkably used until 1981.
