A lovely spot just 3km west of town, Chinaman Creek Dam is good for birdwatching or a picnic – the small red-rock escarpments provide a pretty backdrop early morning or late afternoon. There are also terrific views of town and the surrounding countryside from the lookout; take the sharp left that climbs the hill just after taking the turn-off from the highway.
