Childers Palace Memorial & Art Gallery

Fifteen backpackers tragically died when the hostel that once operated here was consumed by a deliberately-lit fire in 2000. The two-storey balconied Palace Hotel was erected in 1903, when the 1890 original was destroyed in an earlier fire. Drop in to see a moving memorial wall commemorating the 15 victims, plus rotating exhibitions of art.
