There are five spring-fed waterfalls located in the heart of the 185,000-acre Havasupai Indian Reservation, situated in a gorge off the Grand Canyon. They include Navajo Falls, Fifty Foot Falls, Havasu Falls, Mooney Falls and Beaver Falls. The stunning blue-green Havasu Falls waterfall is particularly popular, and singer Beyoncé’s music video Spirit was filmed there last year, which caused a bit of controversy. Reservations are essential, as the Havasupai tribe limits the number of visitors allowed to visit the reservation to 350 daily and there is no day hiking permitted.

The Havasupai Tribal Council releases its hiking and campground permits yearly on 1 February for all arrival dates from March 1 2020, and those who successfully obtain them must spend a minimum three-night stay. As the reservations sell out very quickly, it is recommended that those wishing to secure a permit should create an account now at havasupaireservations.com. There are no phone reservations, and in 2019, rates were $375 (€341) per person for the three-night stay in the campground, which holds 350 people.

If you don't manage to secure a campground reservation, bookings for Havasupai Lodge open on 1 June. It has 24 rooms and in 2019, the rates were $440 (€400) per night. The Havasupai Reservation is located south of the Colorado River and four hours west of Grand Canyon National Park's South Rim, off Route 66. Supai, the only village within the reservation, is situated below the rim.
