Is travelling to Swedish Lapland on your bucket list? If so, a new direct flight route from London has been announced that will make the journey there more convenient.
The twice-weekly Scandinavian Airlines flights between London’s Stansted airport and Luleå in northern Sweden will operate on Mondays and Fridays from 18 December 2020 through to 15 March 2021. According to Visit Lapland, the direct flights are predicted to make the journey 18% - 20% more carbon-efficient, helping to reduce the impact of travel to the region. In addition, Luleå Airport was one of the first net zero airports in Europe for carbon emissions.
Luleå is the capital of Norrbotten, and it's a laid-back university town and an important high-tech centre. It offers a wide range of activities, where visitors can hunt for Northern Lights from a hot air balloon, join a hovercraft tour to the Luleå Archipelago, drive a snowmobile and even join in with some ice yoga.
It is also home to the cool Treehotel, where guests can stay in seven different treehouses, and it is perfectly placed for those who wish to explore the attractions of the surrounding areas. These include the recently-opened Artic Bath hotel near the small village of Harads and the ever-popular Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi.
