Although the displayed work at this beautiful two-story institution comes from all over the African diaspora, most of it is created by local New Orleans artists. Images of Mardi Gras and the New Orleans music scene are highlights. The artwork is part of a collection amassed during some 30 years of collecting by Dr Dwight McKenna. Real standouts are the temporary exhibitions, such as 2014's Queens Rule!, a celebration of Mardi Gras Indian queens. Check the website for details of the packed calendar.
