Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei

This lovely yet understated museum focuses on thought-provoking and experimental works by emerging local and regional artists. It’s housed in a beautiful red-brick building that was built as an elementary school in the 1920s, later becoming Taipei's City Hall before its current incarnation as the city's modern art museum. It’s just as much a treat to creep about creaky wooden floorboards as it is trying to work out the meaning behind some of the very bright, very modern, and often fun and very experimental art displayed here. If you’re in the neighborhood, it's well worth a visit, and an hour is plenty. Bags must be checked in, and English audio guides are available.
