Tōei Kyoto Studio Park(東映太秦映画村; global.toei-eigamura.com) is where Tōei, one of Japan's major film studios, welcomes the public to its backlot, filled with recreations of Edo-period streetscapes and sets for jidaigeki (period dramas). While most of the moviemaking takes place on soundstages closed to the public, if you time it right, you may be able to watch a current production in progress. Otherwise, the park is meant for tourists, with interactive attractions like the Ninja Mystery House, the Cursed Doll haunted house, a climb-in Evangelion, and carnival-style games, such as archery and shuriken (ninja star) throwing. Most of these require an extra fee (¥400–600).
Explanations in English are limited and performances like the Crash! Ninja Sho are all in Japanese, but the action speaks for itself. While kids will probably be entertained by the activities, non-Japanese-speaking adults may be a little lost.
