Reached along the arcade on the north side of the Grand Oriental Hotel, this converted Dutch governor’s banquet hall was first used as a church in 1821. Inside are lines of plaques commemorating sons (and daughters) of empire; consider the fates of William Dumaresq Wright (thrown from a cart), Alice Mary Gordon (died at sea just off Colombo) and Charles Wallet (killed by an elephant).
