Considered the lungs of Colombo, Viharamahadevi Park is green and peaceful, benefiting from a canopy of tall and shady trees. The park was previously called Victoria Park, but was renamed in the 1950s after the mother of King Dutugemunu. The main entrance is directly opposite Colombo's vivid white, domed Town Hall (1928). A tall golden seated Buddha statue welcomes visitors and a central fountain leads towards the middle of the park. To the right is a small pond and bandstand; a little further is the kids' playground Sathutu Uyana.
