Skipperhuset

Restaurant Skipperhuset

Interior of Skipperhuset restaurant in Fredensborg, Zealand, Denmark.

It’s hard to imagine a more idyllic setting for a lazy lunch than this twisted, part-timbered 1754 boathouse perched right beside the jetty on Esrum Sø. Small but beautifully presented lunch plates include fried plaice with Béarnaise sauce or a selection of cold open sandwiches, including daily-changing herring-of-the-day, all served with superb rye bread and seasonal vegetables.

Consider booking ahead for dinner. Between 3pm and 5pm, it is drinks or coffee and cake only. Walking here is a delight, 1km downhill on a pedestrian avenue from Fredensborg Slot.
