Puerta de Almodóvar

The only survivor of the nine city gates built by emir Abd ar-Rahman I (though what you see today is mainly 14th-century Christian work), the Almodóvar gate is an opening in the stout walls lining the west side of the old city. Outside it, you'll find a statue of the Córdoba-born philosopher Seneca and, to the south, a pretty street (Calle Cairuán) with a central spine of rectangular hedge-bound water pools.
