The Museum of Contemporary Art (mocabangkok.com; 300฿), otherwise known as MOCA, is Bangkok's most important contemporary and modern art gallery, although you wouldn’t guess it from its peculiar location by the side of an expressway in the city's northern reaches. It's also one of the biggest galleries for contemporary art in Asia, and inside, it’s an impressive, light-filled, minimalist white space spread over five floors.
MOCA is where hip international artists such as Banksy and Jacky Tsai stage their Bangkok shows – it’s worth checking to see who MOCA is exhibiting (book in advance for big-name artists). There are also permanent collections featuring some of the most renowned Thai artists (both painters and sculptors) from the last 100 years, and galleries devoted to photography, kohn masks and shadow puppets. The 5th floor has a small collection of work by foreign artists. MOCA is open Tuesday to Sunday, from 10am to 6pm.
