Artist Adrien-Jean Le Mayeur de Merprès (1880–1958) arrived in Bali in 1932 and married Legong dancer Ni Polok three years later, when she was just 15. They lived in the compound that now houses the Museum Le Mayeur back when Sanur was still a quiet fishing village. Later, the Balinese-style compound became a museum featuring many of Le Mayeur’s works. Paintings from his early period in Bali are romantic depictions of daily life and beautiful Balinese women – often Ni Polok.
The museum was under refurbishment at the time of research, but you can peer into the grounds to admire the stunning architecture.
