Miami Marketta

Miami Marketta

Facade of Miami Marketta street market at sunset in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.

The vibe becomes more relaxed as you head from Surfers Paradise south to Broadbeach and through Mermaid Beach, Miami and Nobby Beach (Nobbys). The entire strip features places to eat and drink, but for the ultimate taste of the Gold Coast, head to Miami Marketta (miamimarketta.com), a hawker-style street market (from 5pm Wednesday to Saturday) in a huge warehouse.

On offer is everything from Turkish gözleme (stuffed turnover) to Japanese okonomiyaki (savory pancakes). Grab a drink at the cocktail bar and browse the cool gift shop. There are hip souvenirs and designs on offer and the market's own craft gin is also available.

You can look forward to buskers and live music most nights, but Australian touring bands and the occasional international act also play Miami Marketta's bigger concert space. Check online for listings. Friday and Saturday nights offer the widest selection of food, and the market is a just a five-minute walk from the new Miami North G:link light rail station.
