Kungsparken

Since 1872, the 34,000-sq-meter Kungsparken (Kings Park) in the shadow of Malmöhus Slott has been delighting Malmö's residents and visitors with its magnificent collection of more than 130 mature trees from around the world, as well as ponds, an organic vegetable garden and a fountain. Originally called King Oscar's Park in honor of the Danish king Oscar II, the park was part of the private grounds of the slott before being gifted to the city by the king. Designed by Danish landscape architect Ove Høegh Hansen, it was inspired by romantic English gardens. The park's popular Slottsträdgårdens Kafé is set in the organic garden near the castle walls. The park is also a great spot for a picnic when the weather is fine. For those partial to a flutter, Malmö's only casino, the Casino Cosmopol, is within the park bounds.
