At the Conway Mill complex, the Eileen Hickey Irish Republican History Museum (eileenhickeymuseum.com; free) houses artifacts related to the Republican struggle. The collection was started by Eileen Hickey, who was imprisoned at the Armagh Gaol from 1973 to 1977. At the entrance to the museum is a recreation of the Armagh Gaol cell in which Hickey was held, including her bed, personal photographs and an original cell door.
The main exhibition space has handicrafts made by Republican prisoners, such as harps and intricate model caravans. Other items include rubber and plastic bullets, and a collection of weapons. The museum is run by Hickey's family members, who are happy to talk about the exhibits and what they represent. It is only open 10am to 2pm Tuesday to Saturday. Allow around 30 minutes here.
