Gorgeous Blickling was remodelled in the 17th century for Sir Henry Hobart, James I's chief justice, but the house is best known for its previous owners, the Boleyn family, though the jury is out on whether Anne Boleyn actually lived here before her unfortunate marriage to Henry VIII. Impressive enough from the outside, Blickling is something else on the inside – many of the extravagant interiors date to the early 17th century, including some of the finest Jacobean molded plaster ceilings still in existence.
Other highlights include lush grounds and gardens and the Long Gallery library, with 10,000 ancient tomes sitting beneath a plaster roof adorned with Biblical allegories. It’s said that on the anniversary of Anne Boleyn's death, a coach drives up to the house, drawn by headless horses, driven by headless coachmen and containing the queen with her head on her lap.
