Since the opening of the outstanding contemporary art museum Dia: Beacon in 2003, this blue-collar town beside the Hudson River has steadily evolved into a magnet for creatives, commuters and second-homers. It's backed by Mt Beacon, the tallest summit in the Hudson Valley and one of the more rewarding hikes in the region. While the town has embraced its status as a retreat for the hip, it still proudly displays its working-class roots and is all the more attractive for it.
