Only 200m from the Overblaak Development, find one of Rotterdam's sole survivors of the prewar period. Dating from 1897, Europe's first "skyscraper" is the 10-story, 45m-high Witte Huis (inhetwittehuis.nl). It's an art nouveau icon raised with load-bearing brick walls rather than a steel skeleton. An interior cafe (closed Sun & Mon) keeps with the gorgeous exterior style, elegantly flaunting multicolored stained-glass windows, glass chandeliers and high ceilings. Head inside for a slick sundowner cocktail.
