Named for the Nederlandsche Dok en Scheepsbouw Maatschappij (the Netherlands Dock & Shipbuilding Company, which operated here from 1946–79), this derelict shipyard turned edgy arts community has a post-apocalyptic vibe. Abandoned trams rust by the water's edge, and street art is splashed on most surfaces. Creatives hang out at cool cafes, bars and restaurants, and businesses such as MTV have their European headquarters here. The area is also a center for underground culture and events.
These include the Over het IJ Festival.
