An icon of Dushanbe, this large bronze statue with a gilded aura celebrates the 10th-century founder of the Samanid dynasty, so ubiquitous throughout Tajikistan as a symbol of nation formation. Since 2024, it has been somewhat upstaged by the fabulous parliament building across the square, especially at night when its subtle lighting can't compete.
