While men play the lead role in the story of Dubai’s development, they have always been supported by a vast network of women, who were hugely instrumental in shaping the country's trajectory. Follow the stories of some of these pioneers at the Women's Museum (womenmuseumuae.com/eng; entry Dhs20) in the Bait Al Banat building. This is the UAE’s only museum documenting the history of Emirati women. Tucked away in the Gold Souq, this is the place to see the work of Ousha Bint Khalifa Al Suwaidi, one of the country’s most famous female poets, or Muneera al Mazrou, the first female photographer from Sharjah. It also has pop-up exhibitions documenting various achievements of local women in sports, literature, politics and science.
