Winnipeg's imposing and underused Union Station (opened in 1911 and designed by the same firm that did New York's Grand Central Terminal) houses a thorough museum on the history of Canadian railways. Highlights include impressive model railways, striking railway art, the Countess of Dufferin locomotive and a collection of historic Canadian railway cars that you can climb inside.
