Designed by British architect Sir Norman Foster and opened in 2004, the Viaduc de Millau is as much a work of imagination as engineering. Seven slender pylons support 2.5km of the A75 motorway, and despite its heavyweight construction (127,000 cu meters of concrete, 19,000 tonnes of steel, 5000 tonnes of cable), the bridge somehow appears as delicate as a gossamer thread. This visitor center details its construction and has a viewpoint from where you can appreciate its mind-bending dimensions.
Guided tours (45 minutes; in English on request) can be arranged at the visitor desk. There's also an upmarket cafeteria (with a menu by superstar chef Michel Bras, no less).
The visitor center is at the bridge's northern end (in Brocuéjouls, about 5km west of the center of Millau).
