Six miles east of Laurel, Trap Pond State Park is the home of the northernmost bald cypress habitat – a flooded forest that looks like it lurched out of the Louisiana bayou. There are several trails alongside the 90-acre pond, with one looping around it. The park is a pleasant place to stroll if you're trying to escape any craziness at the beaches. Kids will enjoy the nature center and the playgrounds.
