There's no shortage of subcontinental spice at this bustling hawker center, wrapped around a wet market in Little India. Queue up for real-deal biryani, dosa (paper-thin, lentil-flour pancake), roti prata (dough-flour pancake) and teh tarik (pulled tea). Well worth seeking out is Ah Rahman Royal Prata, which flips some of Singapore's finest murtabak (stuffed savory pancakes).
Make a beeline for Delhi Lahori, which specializes in Indian and Pakistani dishes, like fish tikka or butter chicken served with fluffy naan. Allauddin’s Briyani is Michelin-recommended for mutton, chicken or beef biryani. We recommend slathering it all in their curry gravy. Apart from Indian food, Tekka Center also has 545 Whampoa Prawn Noodles, a famous 100-year-old stall that serves bowls of noodles in rich prawn broth filled with prawn halves, pork slices, bean sprouts, fried pork lard and shallots.
One floor up is a rainbow-colored sea of Indian sari and textile stores, not to mention a small battalion of tailors. This is probably the cheapest place to pick up an Indian outfit, and while prices are marked, well-mannered bargaining is always worth a try.
