A short drive or train ride from town, Stift Herzogenburg is one of the Danube's baroque gems. You'll need to take a tour (book in advance for an English-speaking guide), which takes in the Stiftskirche (monastery church) and a painting collection that includes local Gothic panel works, stained glass and some unusually nonreligious baroque paintings.
