This hulking building served as the seat of the GDR's State Council from 1964 until 1990 and is mainly noteworthy for incorporating the arched entry portal of the original, demolished Berlin City Palace into its facade. It was from the portal's balcony that Karl Liebknecht proclaimed Germany a "free socialist republic" on 9 November 1918.
Also of note are the colorful windows in the foyer. Created by the East German socialist realist artist Walter Womacka, they depict scenes from the German workers' movement. Somewhat ironically, the building now serves as the campus of a private international business school.
