St Issui's Church

Tucked away on a thickly forested hillside in the Vale of Eywas, this tiny, weathered, 11th-century church is a time capsule of Welsh faith and culture. Inside its wonders reveal themselves: a finely carved wooden rood screen, medieval frescos of biblical texts, coats of arms and a red-ochre skeleton. The church is usually open and empty. Immediately downhill from the church is the Holy Well of St Issui, which is believed to have healing powers and has long been a pilgrimage site.
