Fronting Agincourt Sq at the north end of Monnow St, this handsome Georgian building (1724) originally housed sittings of the assizes court. Outside is a statue of former Monmouth resident Charles Stewart Rolls (1877–1910), co-founder of Rolls-Royce. He was the first Brit to die in an air accident, and thus depicted clutching a model of the Wright biplane in which he died.
The historic courtroom upstairs, holding cells below, ground-floor archaeological display and tourist information desk, were closed at the time of research.
