The Sealaska Heritage Institute (sealaskaheritage.org; adult/child $20/free), founded in 1980 to promote Alaska Native culture, opened this hugely impressive facility in 2015 in the downtown Walter Soboleff building. Inside, a small museum explores aspects of Alaska Native culture, from spiritual beliefs to fishing techniques.
Home to Juneau's most distinctive carved totem - the Sealaska Cultural Values Pole - the photogenic building is a work of art itself, with beautiful panels framing the entrance. The centerpiece of the building is a full-scale replica of a clan house, with photos and descriptions of Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian traditions.
