Looming above Freiburg, the Schauinsland peak (1284m) is topped by a lookout tower commanding fabulous views to the Rhine Valley and Alps, plus multisport trails that allow you to capture the scenery from many angles. A cable car glides to the top in 20 minutes.
If you're up for an adventure, try out Europe's longest scooter track (schauinsland.de/rollerstrecke) - 8km of off-road track through coniferous forest on two wheels. It’s also a popular year-round hiking region, and in winter attracts cross-country skiers, snowshoers and toboggan riders (schauinslandbahn.de).
