Richmond Bridge

Richmond's defining feature is the 1823 Richmond Bridge (ccc.tas.gov.au), the oldest still-functioning bridge in Australia. Built by convicts, it's a massive structure that doesn't look like it's going anywhere anytime soon. The golden stone, manicured lawns and Coal River ducks are picture-perfect, although, in typical Tasmanian style, the bridge has a dark history too: it's purportedly haunted by the "Flagellator of Richmond," George Grover, murdered here in 1832.
