The former palace stables, modeled on those at Buckingham Palace and used for half a century as storage, were reopened as a public gallery space by Queen Sonja on her 80th birthday in 2017. The charming 19th-century building hosts exhibitions of contemporary art from the royal collection. Pieces are shown in the former stalls, which still have historic, hoof-level scratches in the wood.
Unlike the palace, the gallery is open all year round (except when a new exhibition is being mounted) and tickets are readily available at the door.
