The Puente de la Mujer (Women's Bridge) is a modern urban icon, perhaps one of the most representative of the city after the Obelisco. According to its creator, the renowned Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, the 170m bridge represents a couple dancing tango. Of course, you need some imagination to see what he sees. The mast represents the man, while the central curvature, supported by ropes, symbolizes the woman.
The pedestrian bridge is rotating, and if you are lucky, you can see it move 90 degrees to let sailboats and other vessels pass. Inaugurated in 2001, the bridge's components were manufactured in Spain and transferred to Buenos Aires to be later assembled here. In 2022, it underwent a complete remodeling. You can walk across it from Avenida Alicia Moreau de Justo to Olga Cossettini, from west to east of the neighborhood. You can also enjoy the view of the bridge at night from some of the bars and restaurants in the area.
