Pont Valentré

One of the world's most distinctive medieval bridges, Cahors' Unesco-listed gem was built in the 14th century with three tall defensive towers from whose machicolations missiles could be dropped upon attackers.

On the west bank, La Maison de l'Eau gives basic explanations of the bridge's history. A short walk beyond is a limpid spring-fed pool of pure drinking water, the Fontaine des Chartreux, where the Celtic goddess of water was once worshipped.
